ARCHIVE TIPS: CDs/DVDs
Did you know that some cheap brands of writable CD/DVDs (which you can burn in your home computer) may only last between two to five years in extreme cases?
This is because the chemicals used to coat the surface of the disc can become damaged – especially by prolonged exposure to either heat or bright sunlight.
Bulk-buy, cheap discs sometimes use poor quality dyes, which can be more susceptible to damage.
However, we use the best products we can find. Our current favourite is the Delikin Inkjet Archival Gold CD-R Disc. Its surface features 24k gold. The manufacturer claims it will last for more than 300 years.
